OUR APPROACH TO FUND MANAGEMENT
- Most successful investment strategies share a common
characteristic - they employ the power of compound growth to
deliver real long-term returns. The best way to achieve this
is to diversify risk and Saltus does this through multi-asset
class, multi-manager investing.
- We see the role of the fund manager as two-fold: firstly
to limit the possibility of a substantial fall in capital values
and secondly to maximise the rate of compound growth.
- Both of these objectives can be achieved by carefully
allocating capital to the best specialist investment managers,
within a diversified multi-asset portfolio that is subject to
strict risk controls.
- We do not hide behind arbitrary benchmarks.
Saltus runs three distinct absolute return investment strategies
which apply 'risk budgets' to portfolio management to dovetail with
the risk profiling tool you use. This ensures that we always
take the correct amount of risk for your clients.
SALTUS DFM SOLUTIONS VIA NOVIA
Our approach to Discretionary Fund Management On-Wrap differs
from the normal approach of Model Portfolios. Instead of
providing the usual 'buy-list' of funds, we have taken our full
discretionary portfolios and broken them down into a handful
of Saltus "building blocks" (e.g. Saltus managed OEICs and
Saltus managed Investment Trusts) which are then custodied on the
Novia wrap. The advantages to this approach are -
- It gives you and your clients, regardless of their investment
size, access to proven best of breed investment portfolios that are
usually only available to larger investors.
- It permits access to the best institutional managers some of
whom are usually unavailable to retail customers.
- It reduces portfolio costs for your client. Dealing is
done within the Saltus building blocks and as such the charges are
absorbed by them rather than being passed on to the end
client.
- It allows our investment committee to use every tool available
to consistently deliver compound returns within a specified risk
budget. This includes the ability to dynamically hedge the
overall client portfolios, something that cannot be done via Model
Portfolios.
Saltus then uses these building blocks to construct and manage
the portfolios for your clients. Whilst the allocation
between the "building blocks" will change from time to time, most
of the dynamic portfolio management is done by Saltus within these
"building blocks".
HOW DO SALTUS WORK WITH ADVISORS ON THE NOVIA
PLATFORM
Saltus takes time to understand your business and work with you
to find the investment solutions that best fits your practice.
- We work to fit in with your business model. We can act as
a 'behind the scenes' investment partner or are equally happy to
sit alongside you in front of your clients.
- Saltus will provide regular updates on the portfolios we mange
for you and your clients, including fund manager commentary,
portfolio updates and access to the fund management team via
regular investment reviews. We are here to teach you, keep
you informed of our fund management views and to provide you with
sufficient clear information on an on-going basis, to ensure you
can monitor Saltus on behalf of your clients.
- Saltus is happy to do on-site workshops/seminars and teach-ins
to explain about the many asset classes in which we invest and how
we construct portfolios. Please be assured that Saltus will
present information in a clear, jargon-free manner.
- Our IFA clients will have access to the fund managers at
Saltus, as well as your own dedicated Business Development Manager,
together with a dedicated IFA support team at the Saltus head
office in Mayfair.
